American Grain
I saw my first desert sunrise during a road trip from California to Utah, checking off things I needed to see before anything else. Death Valley was my second stop, and I wasn't prepared to feel so alive in the midst of it. I had stopped by the side of the road and climbed the flatbed to get a better view. It was quiet, and the sand and gravel scuffed loudly with each step. Out here, under the open sky of the American Grains, all the noise is gone, and God is close.
