Heading into the Californian desert on an early morning in May. My head and heart are still on European time, and I've only met three cars between leaving the motel at 4.30 am and sunrise. The drive-thru coffee is gone, but I have water, a new blanket, and a camera.

I stop and step out of the car to breathe in the morning breeze while glancing down the road from where I came.

I'm on my way to the other side of the horizon, and there's no turning back. Just wheels on asphalt and the sweet sound of an open sky.
